About Our Designer

The Vice President and Product Designer for Tribal Monsoon Exports, Safana Khan works to connect rural artisans of Pakistan to consumers and businesses worldwide.

Through Safana's product design and business development efforts, Tribal Monsoon employs over 300 artisans in cottage industries all over Pakistan. As a direct result of Safana's design vision, Tribal Monsoon products sell globally through recognized retailers, such as Overstock.com Inc., in addition to a number of specialty retail stores.

Safana Khan works hand-in-hand with artisans, utilizing ancient skills such as block-printing, to create a home décor collection which fuses traditional arts with modern aesthetics. As Product Designer at Tribal Monsoon, Safana leads a team of 20 specialist workers, including talented tailors, embroiderers, carpenters, and polishers. She is personally involved with sourcing materials with the assistance of a buying team. Her aim is to help Tribal Monsoon keep the crafts and skills of thousands of artisans alive, by customizing products to meet the design requirements of urban and export markets.

As Vice President of Tribal Monsoon, Safana communicates with buyers worldwide, including retail store owners in Mexico, craft show enthusiasts in Canada, interior designers in the USA, online retailers in the UK, and set designers in Australia. In recognition of Safana's unique designs, Tribal Monsoon products have been featured in international magazines and have been used to decorate boutique hotels and spas worldwide. Many of these products are based on custom designs, calling upon her sense of design and aesthetics to create unique custom pieces of bedding and furniture.

Safana's debut interior design project of a 4,000 sq foot residential property received much acclaim and was featured in a prominent local design exhibition. The success of her first design project and her long-term passion for art and design has encouraged Safana to refine her innate design skills through a formal degree in interior design.

Safana completed a B.A. in Information Management from University College London (UCL) in 2003. As an optional elective during her degree, she also completed an art course at the Slade School of Art. After UCL, Safana joined Tribal Monsoon as the Customer Relations and Marketing Manager and was later promoted to Vice President.

Going forward, Safana hopes to pursue a 1 year Graduate Diploma in Interior Design starting October 2008 at Chelsea College of Arts. Following successful completion of this course, Safana hopes to pursue interior design at Master's level, and then return to Tribal Monsoon to launch a retail store and Interior Design service.
